Tina Fey Laughs Off 'Hollywood Bulls-t' at the Oscars
I'm not sure whether I'm just not as entertained by Fey as others seem to be, or if there were just more than enough aspects in the film that seemed off to me, but I was not impressed. "I've always loved that".
A cable news producer (Tina Fey) takes on a daring new assignment in Afghanistan, and finds herself in the middle of a chaotic war zone.
"And because I'm an egomaniac, and a moron, that really spoke to me", says the 45-year-old promoting the film. She also gets drunk with fellow war correspondent Margot Robbie and is shown, you know, ACTUALLY WORKING ON HER STORIES, something that movies about reporters frequently ignore, making the lives of journalists appear infinitely more glamorous than they actually are. Fey told Time magazine that in order to prepare for the role, she read books and tried to watch documentaries on Afghanistan. We'll have to see what happens, since something like this can easily fall through the cracks, especially if it's not a financial success, but I'd keep an eye on it when the time comes late in 2016. She hasn't connected as well to projects she didn't pen, but "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot" alters that trajectory.
"If I were to do a hardcore sex scene-ha!-people would think, 'Eww, that's like seeing my sister do that". "I saw her at the Oscars [but] I just got to say 'hi'".
"Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot" is set to hit big screens in the U.S. on March 4th.
"I'd like to say, we're both smart and self-deprecating, and I think we have a similar sense of humour", says Barker. "Everyone does it." Later, when Stern asked her flat-out whether or not the rumors of a Mean Girls musical were true, Fey replied, "Yes!" "I got to fire an AK-47, which a lot of my guy friends thought was so awesome, and I was like, 'It was fine.' But it's interesting - it's a complicated thing to be a woman anywhere, but especially over there".
"WTF" makes only cursory attempts at examining the geopolitical consequences of America's involvement in Afghanistan.
That's in large part due to her nonglamorous, every-woman persona: We believe in her because we can relate to her, whether she's playing a character in a TV studio or on the front lines of war. Tina has dedicated the movie to her father Don Fey who was a veteran from North Korea and she said that he would have enjoyed the movie.
Fans have two more films to look forward to, now in the pipeline of Fey's production company, Little Stranger, Inc. "That's a boundary I don't want to cross with them".
Unfortunately, "WTF", like "EPL", veers into romantic territory that diminishes the story of its central character. "Yes, yes", Fey said, later adding that it is "years away" from coming to fruition.
