Ben Carson Officially Ends His Campaign For President
Ben Carson made the decision to drop out of the presidential race on Super Tuesday, watching the returns come in from Baltimore.
"Even though I might be leaving the campaign trail, you know there's a lot of people who love me, they just won't vote for me", Carson said, smiling. "I will still continue to be heavily involved in trying to save our nation".
Instead of continuing his campaign, Carson announced that he'd become involved in My Faith Votes, which will focus on increasing Christian voting in the upcoming election.
During his CPAC speech, Carson suggested those voters could have propelled a Republican president into the White House last time around.
The announcement was expected after Carson released a statement saying he does "not see a political path forward" after this week's Super Tuesday contests.
In his speech on Friday, Dr Carson also sounded his usual notes of preserving evangelical Christian values and embracing personal responsibility. "I believe Christians in this country can easily determine the next president of the United States and all other national and local leaders, should they simply show up at the polls".
He had to pause his remarks for a moment as the crowd stood up from their chairs and applauded him for his work. "I realized it simply wasn't going to happen and if that's the case, I didn't want to interfere with the process", Carson said.
His departure leaves John Kasich, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and Donald Trump in the race for the Republicans - and Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders on the Democratic side.
He has not said which of the remaining four candidates he plans to endorse in the race for the Republican nomination.
"We can not afford to give the Democrats this kind of ammunition", he said.
On March 4th, Ben Carson formally suspended his 10-month-long presidential campaign. "I placed trust where I shouldn't have", he said.
Ever since he launched his presidential bid last May, Carson's campaign was something of a roller-coaster ride.
