Trade, manufacturing at forefront of Clinton-Sanders race

Super Tuesday 2016 in Virginia: What's at stake and where to vote

Appearing on Indian station NDTV during her tenure as secretary of state, Clinton was asked during a town hall-style public affairs program for her thoughts on outsourcing from the United States to India.

Sanders's camp is prepared to argue that Clinton's words, spoken overseas, show an insensitivity to the plight of USA workers, including those in trade-battered MI, which has shed far more than its share of manufacturing jobs. "Right now in manufacturing plants in MI, numerous new jobs that are being created are paying substantially less than the older jobs because companies are saying, 'If you do not accept these low wages, we are going to move to China or Mexico'".

Republican presidential candidate frontrunner Donald Trump continued to steamroll toward the GOP nomination during the Massachusetts Primary on Tuesday, March 1, winning the Commonwealth with 49 percent of the votes and gaining 22 delegates. He says they've cost the country millions of jobs.

The event will be broadcast live beginning at 6 p.m. ET Monday from Detroit's Gem Theatre and will be hosted by Bret Baier.

Clinton planned to deliver a policy address Friday in Detroit outlining ways to remove economic barriers for families, giving her the opportunity to respond to Sanders, who has accused her of supporting trade deals that have had "disastrous" consequences for workers.

Sanders's position also puts him at odds with President Obama on trade. And he has sought to diminish Clinton's standing by implying she waffled when she initially called the Trans Pacific Partnership trade as the "gold standard" as secretary of state but later opposed the deal.

In a conference call with reporters, Clinton policy adviser Jake Sullivan said Clinton has long supported updating NAFTA.

Bernie Sanders is listed as an "invited special guest" but it is not known if he plans to attend. The campaign pointed to a 2004 statement during his Senate tenure in which she says: "I do not think outsourcing American Jobs is a new kind of trade... and I certainly do not believe it is a good thing".
