Sanders, Clinton gear up for final Democratic debate before Michigan's primary

Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton takes a lion's share

Super Tuesday 2016 in Virginia: What's at stake and where to vote

He'll rely on young and first-time voters to do that. If Mrs Clinton has trouble putting away a previously obscure Left-wing populist like Mr Sanders, how will she fare against the much more ruthless Mr Trump, with his vastly superior name recognition? Sanders isn't going anywhere. "She's not so inevitable today", Sanders said.

Mr. Sanders is banking on a win in MI for fresh momentum after losing seven of the 11 states that voted on Tuesday and falling well behind in the delegate count. She was excited to see Sanders speak in Fort Collins.

The former secretary of state's campaign, through the Hillary Victory Fund, also raised $4.4 million for the Democratic National Committee and state parties. Though he outraised Clinton in January, Sanders ended the month with $14.7 million in the bank. With huge delegate blocs to be awarded in NY in April and California in June, he'll be tough to mathematically eliminate.

"As nurses, we know that so many of our patients are struggling to access the healthcare they need and deserve", said Sarasota nurse Dawn Edwards. Our plan is to win and win consistently between now and June.

Washington's professional pundits were wrong when they claimed the fight for the Democratic nomination was over before Bernie Sanders got into the race; they're wrong if they claim this fight is over now.

Beyond Vermont, Sanders' wins came in Minnesota, Colorado and Oklahoma, where working-class white voters play a bigger role in Democratic contests.

"There was a great diversity among the states that we won last night", Weaver said. Sanders' campaign sees Kansas, Maine and Nebraska caucuses as winnable over the weekend. "The Clintons don't really stand in that position very well".

Environmental engineering senior Patrick Searcey said the next 19 states are Sanders' best chance at coming out on top. But Clinton's large operation now hopes to make it almost impossible for him to win the presidency.

Caleb Farris, history and political science junior and Oklahoma Students for Sanders General Organizer, said he was not surprised by Clinton's southern state sweep. "He is going to have some victories tonight and he is going to have some victories in the week ahead".

The Democratic contests award delegates in proportion to the vote, meaning that even the loser wins some delegates.

As important, most so-called "super delegates" - party officials - have supported Clinton thus far, although that could conceivably change by the time of the convention. And in Louisiana, the numbers were even grimmer for Sanders: the Vermont senator won 14% of Democratic primary voters' support in the Pelican State, compared to Clinton's 61%.

"Both campaigns are fired up", said Sheryl Wilson, chair of the Manatee County Democrats. Of those, Clinton has already won GA (16), and Sanders has already won MN (10).

But don't expect Clinton to step up her rhetoric against Sanders.

Labor unions will loom large in the upcoming primaries. He has the money and support to stay in the campaign, if only to keep hammering his message. They begin Saturday, March 5, and extend through Tuesday, March 15, when primary voters in the key states of Florida, North Carolina, Ohio, Illinois and Missouri will have their say.
