With Carson failing to win any state primaries or caucuses, "there isn't much to argue with", Williams said.
He did not explicitly say that he's ending his campaign, only noting that he does not plan to take part in Thursday's Fox News debate.
"What we must do as conservatives is we couple conservative with compassion", Carson said.
But the announcement will serve as an acknowledgment that Carson's candidacy is all but over following a disappointing showing in the 11 states that held contests on Tuesday.
After announcing the suspension of his campaign at the Conservative Political Action Conference, Carson announced that he will joining My Faith Votes, an organization that inspires Christians to vote in elections, in an effort to bring more evangelical voters to the polls.
In 2008, Carson received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from the hands of the former president George W. Bush, who congratulated him for being one of the world's leading neurosurgeons, coming from a Detroit full of "poverty, crime and violence".
But he withered under mocking insults from Donald Trump, especially in Iowa.
"I've always said that March 2 was D-Day", Armstrong Williams, Carson's longtime business manager who is not officially affiliated with the campaign, told Business Insider on Wednesday. Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz also should drop out, as they "also have no path" to the nomination. But that support waned, and Carson only managed to secure eight delegates in the Republican race.
"Nothing is more important to me than my personal faith, and it is my faith that motivated me to be involved in the political process to begin with", Carson said in a statement.
According to analysts, Carson never provided strong political arguments for his presidential campaign.
Dr. Carson rose to political fame in 2013 after criticizing policies of President Barack Obama while Obama sat a few feet away during a speech he gave at the National Prayer Breakfast.
This week, Carson did receive perhaps his first positive polling news in months.
