Panthers crush Cardinals, advance to Super Bowl

Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers stiff arms Ed Stinson of the Arizona Cardinals in the second half during the NFC Championship Game at Bank of America Stadium on Sunday in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Ginn scored a 22-yard touchdown, a run after catching a flip from quarterback Cam Newton in the backfield to set the tone during the first quarter of a 49-15 victory.

The Denver Broncos staved off a wild fourth quarter comeback try from the New England Patriots to win the AFC Championship, 20-18 Sunday. They forced Carson Palmer into four interceptions and forced two fumbles in an impressive defensive performance.

"To go through a season and have everything said about you, to say it's only a matter of time that the Carolina Panthers [falter] makes it all worthwhile".

Newton completed 19-of-28 passes for 335 yards and rushed 10 times for 47 yards, smiling all the way as he shut up his skeptics, both real and imagined.

It will be the first Super Bowl for Newton and the second trip to the big game for the Panthers (17-1), who lost to New England 12 years ago. He just connected too many times with the Panthers.

The Panthers are plus-nine on turnovers over the two playoff games. Arizona is 4-1 against the spread in their last five road games, 15-5 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread, and 1-6 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Seven receivers caught a pass from Newton, capped by Corey Brown's 86-yard touchdown that closed the first quarter.

Entering the National Football League playoffs, I expected to see Arizona and Denver advance to the Super Bowl with strong defenses and offensive depth at receiver, running back and quarterback.

Rivera said: "My understanding is if everything goes well it is something he can mostly certainly play with it so we are excited about that possibility".

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - For all his daring and dabbing and Superman persona, Cam Newton quickly reminds everyone that football is all about team.

Davis' teammates praised his toughness and said it's hard to imagine anyone trying to tell him he couldn't play in his first Super Bowl after spending his entire career trying to reach this pinnacle. He was plastered by All-Pro linebacker Thomas Davis for a 6-yard loss on the first play of the series, then came back to gain 25 yards, including a 1-yard TD dive.

Miller and Co. will have its work cut out for it against Newton and a Carolina team that averaged a league-best 31.2 points during the regular season. "I have two weeks to get ready and I'm going to take every minute of it". "My team knew it was personal".

Take away the Russell Wilson pick-six that gave Carolina a 14-0 lead and the final score might have been different.

Davis, who already had six tackles, left with a broken right forearm during that drive.
