Rory Feek Vows Not to Sing Without Wife Joey by His Side
As Joey Feek continues her battle with Stage 4 Cervical cancer, her husband Rory says their next album will be their last.
Though Rory may have another milestone to look forward too - their duo, Joey + Rory, was nominated for a Grammy Award for best country duo/group performance - he did not sound too optimistic about Joey Feek making it that long.
Julie Zamboldi first met the couple at a music festival eight years ago, and over time she has become their biggest fan, and eventually came to work for them, running their fan club.
Joey has been battling cancer since 2014, just a few months after giving birth to Indiana. If not in person, then in my heart. Joey and Zamboldi soon became very close friends. "It turns out that Julie had lost two of her best girlfriends to cancer and it had hurt and scarred her, and somehow our music was a part of her healing", Rory shares. "And so at the Indianapolis airport this evening, a plane will take off and Saint Jules (as Joey's daddy calls her) won't be on it. Instead, she will be be with her best friend", Rory wrote.
In his latest update about his terminally ill wife Joey Feek, Rory Feek opened up to E! "When we pulled it out for her this morning, Joey just laughed and said, 'I can't use that... it's for old people.' Then she grabbed the handles and pushed herself out of the room". "I'd like to tell you that she's doing great and is going to beat this thing", he wrote. "Indy grinned ear-to-ear and so did we".
On Saturday (Jan. 16), Zamboldi was supposed to leave the Feeks and head back to OR - but when Joey Feek realized, as Rory Feek recounts, that she may never see her best friend again, Zamboldi's plans changed.
This has also been very hard for Joey Feek.
Rory Feek has been documenting his wife's struggle with cancer in an online blog and wrote last fall that they had made a decision to end treatment after the cancer continued to spread.
Like she did that day in August at the hospital in Atlanta when Joey was starting chemo, I think our baby is continuing to cheer her mama on in her fight - the best way she knows how... He said that after Joey's death, he has no desire to continue on with his singing career.
