49ers new coach Chip Kelly could maximise Aussie's full

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly watches the action from the sidelines in the first half of an NFL football game against the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte, N.C. The San Francisco 49ers have hired Chip Kelly as their new head coach.

On Thursday morning, the 49ers had announced that they had hired Kelly to be the new head coach over the likes of Tom Coughlin and Mike Shanahan.

Pederson to Eagles: Kansas City offensive coordinator Doug Pederson has accepted the Philadelphia Eagles' offer to become their head coach.

In San Francisco, Kelly will take over for recently fired Jim Tomsula, who was sacked after just one season in charge. Neither Kelly nor the 49ers reached out to the embattled quarterback the past couple weeks. If he can't pass a physical by April 1, the 49ers will have to pay him his salary.

The 49ers appeared to alienate their former starting quarterback, who is rehabilitating from surgery in Colorado, during the 2015 season. He went 10-6 in both of his first two seasons at the helm.

The Eagles still are trying to figure out why he made some of the moves he made during his three years in Philadelphia.

Kelly was not connected, at least publicly, to any of the NFL's six other head-coaching vacancies after the Eagles fired him December 29.

Kelly had mixed success when he was with the Eagles, and the Chronicle informs us that he has a 26-21 record and failed to make the playoffs in his two previous seasons. So it's curious they would hire Kelly when one of the knocks on him in Philly was that he didn't communicate with players or management. "He turned things around at OR, and he's going to turn the 49ers around in a heartbeat, " he said. "I think I understand what the fans want", he said.

"Most people were very receptive to it, [but] some guys were like: 'What are we doing; why are we doing this?' " a former Eagles player said in the article, adding as quickly as players learned how to cheat the hydration test, adding a splash of water from the urinal, Kelly ordered the system revamped to discourage diluters.

Kelly's appointment elicited a mixed response from the National Football League pundits but many suggested he could get the best out of quarter-back Colin Kaepernick, who was benched after a poor start last season.

The one area that Kelly needs to really improve upon is how he relates to his players.

With no excuses wanted, and hardly any patience for mediocrity, it will be time for Chip Kelly to put up or shut up and get right to work.

We will see if Kelly and Baalke can establish a working relationship, with Gamble in the middle, and we will see if they can agree on the re-composition of this roster.

"As the owner of the team I've got to look at the progress and the trajectory of the where it's headed, and it's disappointing to me", Lurie said.

"Even looking over the last few seasons, I think it's important to learn and to grow from your mistakes".
