Mobile Introduces Free 4G LTE CellSpots to Combat Dead Zones
While T-Mob may not have the strongest coverage in the USA, they have grown over the years and now they want to step into your home or business.
According to Wired, wireless carrier T-Mobile will begin to offer its customers a 4G LTE CellSpot, a personal "mini-tower" created to improve cell reception and wi-fi at home or work. In return, you get what is effectively a tiny, localized cell tower that can cover up to 3,000 square feet in glorious 4G LTE, and up to 16 calls at one time. Plug it into the wall outlet, connect it to the internet, and your LTE connection will get a boost anywhere T-Mobile has spectrum.
T-Mobile says the 4G LTE CellSpot will ensure customers have full bars of coverage when they are inside their homes. In the interim, the carrier is "amping up" another of its earlier Un-carrier moves with the introduction of a new mobile CellSpot.
The 4G LTE CellSpot is a small device that is just 8.5 inches wide, 8.5 inches tall and 1.3 inch thick.
"Where the T-Mobile Wi-Fi CellSpot's like a T-Mobile tower, this new 4G LTE CellSpot is a T-Mobile mini-tower-and it's a huge feat of engineering", said John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile.
The CellSpot is the latest push in T-Mobile's Uncarrier campaign, which offering perks and other features to customers. Other wireless operators have offered similar signal-boosting cellular routers, but companies like AT&T; and Sprint have asked customers to pay for them.
The new 4G CellSpot device will be available on November 4, Legere said. The 4G CellSpot - which is compatible with both 3G and 4G - works with any T-Mobile device, and can support up to 16 simultaneous voice calls. "The carriers are going to absolutely hate what we're doing here", he said. While there have been reports that AT&T; customers could complain their way out of a MicroCell fee, it cost $150 at launch. Now, the carrier is taking things up a notch with the announcement of a new 4G LTE CellSpot, which is a small little gadget which you can place in your house, bringing LTE coverage to your devices on a personal level.
