Revenue from the "intelligent cloud" business, which includes products such as its Azure cloud infrastructure and services business along with other non-cloud products such as traditional servers, rose 5% to US$6.3bil (RM26.10bil).
"Windows 10 is outpacing adoption of any of our previous operating systems", said Satya Nadella, Microsoft's chief executive, during a conference call with analysts. In short, Microsoft has found some firm footing in the competitive cloud computing market.

It sub-headlines the results with a line commenting upon "cloud strength", and the Microsoft Cloud was indeed a top performer for the company, actually it was the only one of Microsoft's three business segments to enjoy overall growth (ignoring non GAAP constant currency figures).
Microsoft also fared well with its Office 365 cloud product, a major part of the "intelligent cloud" sector, which saw revenue growth of almost 70% in constant currency. Meanwhile, Wall Street analysts had expected Microsoft to report $25.26 billion in revenue for its fiscal second quarter, according to Thomson Reuters.
Microsoft's commercial cloud annualized run rate now exceeds $9.4 billion.
"Our commercial business executed well as our sales teams and partners helped customers realise the value of Microsoft's cloud technologies across Azure, Office 365 and CRM Online".
Microsoft Surface revenue was up 29% year on year, totalling $1.35 billion (about £94m, AU$1.91bn).
Windows OEM revenue declined 5 percent. Operating profit fell to USD 6.0 billion from USD 7.8 billion, and net profit dropped to USD 5.0 billion from USD 5.9 billion a year ago.
Looking ahead, Microsoft expects to see a further shift towards cloud and services in its revenue results for the current quarter. The company's gaming and digital content unit similarly reported positive growth, with monthly active users on its Xbox Live platform rising 30% year-on-year, to 48 million.
