Shkreli was appearing in front of the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform following his arrest in December for fraud and operating a Ponzi-like scheme.
USA lawmakers want to hear about the price hikes for a drug sold by the company that he acquired but he has not been forthcoming. When Shkreli refused to answer a question about his $2 million purchase of a Wu-Tang Clan album, Gowdy said he was "stunned that a conversation about an album purchase could possibly subject him to incrimination". Except that, on the advice of his counsel, Martin Shkreli refused to talk at all-about anything.
Shkreli's attorney, Benjamin Brafman, a prominent criminal defense lawyer, told reporters after the appearance that it was a "frustrating morning for us". "The way I see it you could go down in history as the poster boy for greedy drug company executives, or you can change the system".
When Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-South Carolina, asked Shkreli how to pronounce his name, the former drug executive answered.
In Turing's defense, Retzclaff said that two-thirds of patients receive Daraprim at a steep discount through government programs, and that the company funds an assistance program for uninsured, low-income patients.
After appearing before the House committee, Shkreli vented his animosity toward Congress on Twitter.
"I know you're smiling, but I'm very serious sir", Cummings continued.
Cong. Cummings said, "It's not amusing, Mr. Shkreli".
In response Mr Shkreli said politicians and the media failed to recognize the pharmaceutical sector.
What do you think of his behavior?
Shkreli stayed mum as television cameras followed him from the Capitol Hill hearing, but quickly took to Twitter after that to blast lawmakers. About 92,000 people were talking about Shkreli on Facebook. Once he left the courtroom, Shkreli tweeted out a quick insult to Congress. Documents from Valeant and Turing show they have made a practice of buying and then dramatically raising prices for low-cost drugs given to patients with life-threatening conditions including heart disease, Aids and cancer, according to excerpts released this week by the House panel.
"Don't come before the American people and cry and shed a tear and say we're not making any money", Chaffetz said, as quoted by Bloomberg.
