President Obama's Last Address to State of the Union

It's officially history preserved for the ages, though you can't say the same for the Snapchat version: Last night President Barack Obama delivered his final State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress. "First", he said, "how do we give everyone a fair shot at opportunity and security in this new economy?" Will we respond to the changes of our time with fear, turning inward as a nation, and turning against each other as a people? Obama asked. "Or will we face the future with confidence in who we are, in what we stand for, in the incredible things that we can do together?"

The White House notes that unemployment in the pair of Republican-leaning states has fallen significantly since President Obama took office.

President Obama delivers his final State of the Union address on Tuesday. He said America's standing in the world is improved, and he celebrated Americans he has met as he traveled.

"You hear a bunch of folks right across the river and I don't know if the TV has drifted over here, but they're kind of depressing", he said. We excluded pronouns, common articles - "the", "and" - and some ubiquitous words like "America" and "United States".

The Affordable Care Act is one of the most polarizing pieces of policy created during the Obama administration.

Cruz: Indeed, this wasn't supposed to be a political speech, but Obama was listening to a lot of the stuff that was going on out there - especially on the Republican side - and made some pointed references to Gov. Chris Christie, Sen.

(President Obama) "It's one of the few regrets of my presidency - that the rancor and suspicion between the parties has gotten worse instead of better". "It's a matter of understanding what makes us strong". It's a matter of understanding what makes us strong. "That's not telling it like it is. Our country is being tested", she said.

"There is more than enough blame to go around".

"We're just as guilty as Democrats as Republicans are. We need to accept that we've played a role in how and why our government is broken".

Throughout the hour-long address, Obama stuck to a hopeful message in which he explained how he would leave office with the U.S.in better shape - focusing on a laundry list of accomplishments like the growing economy, shrinking income inequality and keeping America safe from terrorism - but also warned of the divisive rhetoric being used during the 2016 campaign. Obama didn't mention the incident, but aides said earlier that the USA was "working to resolve the situation" and was hopeful that the sailors would soon be released.
