A report of a shooting resulted in a large amount of police activity Thursday morning in Wilmerding
Salvant asked her if she understood the charges brought against her and explained some of the details of the complaint, including that she intended "to hinder the arrest, detention, adjudication or disposition of a child, Ethan Couch".
Couch has been arrested on accusations she helped her son, Ethan Couch, flee to Mexico after violating his probation after killing four in a drunk driving accident in 2013.
They disappeared shortly after a video surfaced on Twitter showing what appears to be Ethan Couch at a party where people were drinking and playing beer pong.
Couch, 48, appeared before State District Judge Wayne Salvant, who conducted the very brief arraignment. According to a court witness, Tonya Couch will remain in jail until Monday, when another hearing will take place.
"I believe she expressed a slight bit of displeasure about her accommodations", Anderson said.
Tonya Couch, mum of "affluenza teen" Ethan Couch, is extradited back to Texas after helping him flee the US.
During Ethan's sentencing in the drunken-driving trial, a psychologist hired by the defense testified that the teen was a product of "affluenza" - a term he used to describe Ethan's irresponsible lifestyle associated with his affluent upbringing.
She arrived in Texas Thursday, two days after a Los Angeles judge approved her extradition and more than a week after Mexican authorities detained her with her son in a Pacific resort town.
"This is a jail, not a resort", he said he told her.
Family members of those who were killed or injured in the crash caused by Ethan Couch were also in court this morning to see Tonya Couch in her less-than-stylish yellow jumpsuit.
Tonya Couch was housed in a maximum security cell by herself Thursday night at the Lon Evans Correctional Facility, Tarrant County Sheriff Dee Anderson said.
Patten later issued a statement criticizing the public manner in which Anderson has handled the case and questioning why he spoke to Couch in court without her attorney present. Fred Couch filed for divorce in August, accusing Tonya Couch of "cruel treatment" toward him, but the divorce is still pending, according to court records.
