Man United: LVG failing United fans

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal's future at Old Trafford is uncertain after their defeat to Southampton

Man United: LVG failing United fans

Beleaguered Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal returned to work on Tuesday as the club dismissed talk of him having offered to quit after Saturday's 1-0 home loss to Southampton.

It's believed the Red Devils board would like the manager to remain in place until the end of the season rather than risk causing any more unrest.

United lost for the ninth time this season as Charlie Austin's late goal condemned them to a 1-0 defeat which leaves them 10 points behind Premier League leaders Leicester. Let us know in the comments section below.

Plus, new speculation suggests 42-year-old assistant coach and legendary United player Ryan Giggs might replace Van Gaal as interim coach until the summer of 2016.

Former Manchester United chief executive David Gill has admitted the club have underachieved this season. And we want to fight for this trophy. For me, what we did in the past was great.

He will take training as normal as United prepare for the FA Cup clash with Derby on Friday.

"They have also knowledge of football, of entertaining football, and you have to play football to entertain the fans".

Gill would not answer if Van Gaal might be removed.

Meanwhile, Mata - who came on as a half-time substitute in the defeat - said in a message posted on his blog on Monday: "Once again I'm writing with a bad taste".

United registered just one shot on target throughout the whole clash, and have now won just two of their last ten Premier League games. "We are not very lucky with our injuries, that s a problem", said Van Gaal, who saw Matteo Darmian go off in the second half against Southampton holding his chest after an aerial collision with Shane Long.

It does seem to be a little odd to get so angry over what is likely to have been reported to the manager by the medical staff and something that van Gaal then relayed to the media.
