Jason Rezaian's wife and mother's final Iran ordeal

Iran deal brings closure to family of jailed journalist

"I appreciate the exceptional care I received from the doctors and medical staff, as well as the hospitality we were shown during our stay on the base", Rezaian said.

Post Executive Editor Marty Baron and Foreign Editor Douglas Jehl also travelled to Germany to meet Rezaian after news broke last week that he would be freed in a prisoner swap brokered as part of the U.S.-Iran deal.

After his release by Iran, Rezaian spent several days at the USA military hospital in Landstuhl, Germany, before leaving with his family for the United States on Friday.

She told the Post that the first she heard of it was a whispered comment from one Iranian guard to another as she was being led out of a building: "The plane may take the wife, too".

"I am overjoyed to be reconnecting with my family", he said in a statement.

Washington Post journalist Jason Rezaian says he's "feeling fine" after being released from an Iranian prison, and he wants to spend time catching up on everything that he's missed over the past 18 months.

Rezaian says he plans to eventually tell the story of his time behind bars and return to writing about U.S.-Iranian relations, but for the time being, he just wants to "catch up with what's been going on in the world, watch a Warriors game or two, and see the Star Wars movie". Bezos shared dinner with them on Thursday evening at an Army base before flying them back to the U.S.

Bezos celebrated Rezaian's release in a tweet on Sunday.

The Post's owner and Amazon.com Inc founder Jeff Bezos accompanied the Iranian-American journalist and his family on the flight to the United States on a private jet, the Post reported.

"Like all of us, he is incredibly happy they are safe and sound", Post spokeswoman Kristine Coratti Kelly was quoted by the newspaper as saying of Bezos.
