'Airlift' team promotes film at Air India office

Airlift collecting over 13 crores rupees in the initial day has already set up new benchmarks for Akshay Kumar in the entertainment industry.

The film "Airlift" is mainly performing well at the multiplexes in metros because of its thought provoking storyline.

On one side there was Saddam Hussein, willing to vanish Kuwaities from Kuwait, and on the other was Ranjit Katyal with his extended family of more than 1.5 lakh Indians putting every possible effort to ensure their safety. The film then goes on to tell us why and how Ranjit goes on to enable the evacuation of Indians from Kuwait. Ranjit finally finds a ray of hope in the form of a kind bureaucrat, Sanjeev Kohli (Kumud Mishra), who empathises with the plight of the stranded Indians and invests all his might into putting the rescue operation in place.

Akshay lifts the role to a different level with his gravitas, body language, screen presence and shines even in "human" situations - the sort he seldom gets to play in his formulaic films. Movie enthusiasts who did an advanced booking of the tickets online were in for a surprise when they received an email saying that the Airlift show has been cancelled as the film has been banned in Dubai.

Nimrat Kaur was equally good while playing Amrita and might turn out to be one of the finest actresses that Bollywood is looking out for. Her character is also stubborn, seemingly supportive (especially as the story unfolds) and strong in her own right. Having said that, the audience's attention does not part at any point.

Though there are bits of the film which are overdone, the tiny flaws and all come together in the end and make for a must watch this Republic Day weekend.
