Apple and Mastercard to give free Tube travel to Apple Pay users
Apple and Mastercard are giving free Tube travel to people on the next four Mondays.
With the cost of travel in the capital among the most expensive in the world's major cities, this is a deal worth checking out, especially if you've not given Apple Pay a whirl yet.
Visa has prepared two versions of the first ad, a London-centric one with a commuter and a rest-of-UK one substituting a cafe for the tube. For starters the free rides are only applicable on Mondays, hence the name "Fare Free Mondays".
The next date is on the 30th of November, followed by the 7th of December, and the last date that it will conclude is the 14th of December.
Apple seems to be working hard with its card company partners to promote Apple Pay in the UK.
MasterCard has launched a promotion offering Apple Pay users free travel on London's transport network on "Fare Free Mondays".
The offer's limited to owners of the gadgets listed above, as well as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, who also happen to have a MasterCard credit or debit card hooked up to Apple Pay.
Mark Barnett, MasterCard UK&I; president, highlights that Transport for London's (TfL) move in 2014 to allow users to pay via contactless devices and cards on London Underground proved to be a "phenomenal catalyst" for the growing popularity of contactless payments in the United Kingdom.
The good news today is that MasterCard's promotion is bound to get more folks making Apple Pay payments with their iPhones and Apple Watches.
